Today, I want to talk a little bit about the idea of having multiple websites for the same business. Now, there was a time when this was a strategy that could work for you. That time is now well in the past. So doing it today comes with some significant risks.

Now, I say that because in almost every case, this is something that Google has explicitly said not to do. It’s easy for you to fact check me if you wish. Do some searching, see what you find. In general, though, unless you fall into a very small percentage of cases where maybe this advice isn’t accurate and in fact, you might want to have multiple sites, 99% of the time you do not. First, for the aforementioned reason, but also I’ll give you an example in the form of sort of a story.

So, imagine that Google is the judge— because let’s be real, they are. I mean, they’re the ones who get to decide if you show up in the search results or not. So, if you go in front of that judge, because you’ve been accused of something and you bring one lawyer with you (your website) and that lawyer has one story about what you did or didn’t do and it’s well-crafted and well put together. You’re probably going to be just fine.

But, if instead, you bring two or even three lawyers to that courtroom and go in front of the judge with two or three stories about what happened… you’re in trouble. You’re probably going to be in jail by the end of the day.

So, it’s really not different when it comes to the internet. If you have one solid story that you’re telling, which is to say one website that’s well-crafted and all your energy and efforts have gone into that, you’re going to do fine.

If you have 2, 3, 4 or more, and you’re splitting your efforts across all of them, none of them get their justified efforts, and therefore none of them really are going to have the strength behind them to do what they need to for you. So, please don’t do this. Please, in general, follow the very solid advice of having a single website for your particular business.

And if you do have questions, obviously reach out to us. Maybe you do fall into one of those rare edge cases. We’re happy to talk to you about that, but chances are you probably won’t and your best advice is single website per business.

I hope this video is helpful for you. Please feel free to reach out with any comments or questions that you might have. Otherwise, we’ll see you next time.
